The Randolph Lady Raiders basketball team is gearing up to get back on the court, fueled by last season’s near-miss at an Area Championship that would have ended a 38-year drought. After coming just three points shy of the title and earning an Area Runner-Up and Sub-Regional appearance, the Lady Raiders are on a mission to continue the momentum that’s been building under Head Coach Zac Barringer, now entering his third season.
Despite the loss of three key seniors to graduation, the team is anchored by an experienced core of senior leaders: Madison Moore, Jewel McGee, and Lily Kate Swoboda. Their leadership, alongside the defensive prowess of junior Anne Fowlkes Schreeder, will be essential for the Lady Raiders as they face a challenging schedule and new opponents. Schreeder, a three-year starting junior, has built a reputation for her defensive impact, often being the game-changer that opponents struggle to counter.
Rounding out this well-rounded roster are Junior Maggie Baldone, Sophomores Taylor Knapp and Elizabeth Shaw, Freshman Maggie Antes, and promising young talents Andie Jones and Aiyana Hussain, both seventh graders. Together, they add depth and versatility, bringing a mix of youth and energy that will complement the seniors' experience.
This season also brings exciting matchups with new teams, including Hanceville, Douglas, Asbury, Cornerstone, Athens Bible, Huntsville Christian, Oneonta, and Danville, along with familiar area foes West Limestone, Madison Academy, Westminster Christian, and JP2. Notable home games include Lady Raiders Alumni Night on Friday, January 10th against Westminster Christian, Hoopcoming on Friday, January 24th versus JP2, and Senior Night on Thursday, January 30th against Whitesburg Christian. Fans can also look forward to the annual Christmas Tournament, hosted on December 20-21.
With the season opener set for Tuesday, November 12th at Hanceville, Coach Barringer shared his optimism: “Our girls continue to put the work in to better themselves and the program. We were a handful of points away from having 15+ wins last year. We will look to continue to try and build off the success we have had these last two years.”
The Lady Raiders are eager to leave their mark this season. As they continue to build on last year’s momentum, fans can expect thrilling games and relentless Raider energy.
