Evan Shields Signs to Run at the University of Miami

Today marks a significant occasion for the Randolph School community as we proudly announce that Evan Shields has signed his Letter of Intent to run at the University of Miami (FL). Evan's exceptional talent and dedication to the Cross Country and Track & Field teams has not only opened up an opportunity for him to continue running at the next level, but has also made a huge impact on the programs here at Randolph.

During Evan’s High School running career he has attained many medals, recognition, and school records. Including ASHAA Cross Country 6A All-State honors his Junior and Senior Year, Randolph Cross Country Coach’s Award (Freshman) and 4-time Team MVP (2 Cross Country and 2 Indoor Track).

During his Cross Country career, Evan finished in the top 15 a total of 19 times, 9 - top 5 finishes, winning 3 times and finishing 2nd 4 times.

He earned ASHAA 6A All-State Honors in back to back years his Junior and Senior seasons. He also ran the 2nd fastest 5k in school history, 16:05 5K (3.1 miles)

During his Indoor and Outdoor Track seasons he has raced the 800m, 1600m, 3200m, 4x800 and 4x400. Finishing in the Top 5 -41 times, winning 5 individual races, finishing 2nd - 10 times and 3rd - 13 times.

Evan capped off his Junior year of outdoor track scoring 100.5 varsity points, 18 points of which were at the ASHAA state meet and set individual school records in the 1600m at 4:24, and 3200 at 9:33. He also raced the anchor leg on the 4x800 relay team that set a school record at 8:10.

He is looking forward to finishing his Randolph running career with a successful senior season in Outdoor Track.

Randolph Head Cross Country Coach, Coach Twig, expressed his gratitude for what Evan has meant to the Cross Country Program by stating, “Evan has worked very hard over the past 6 years. This signing is the fruit of his labor. We hope that the Hurricane cross country and track & field program knows what a gem they are getting as we know what we are losing! Congratulations Evan!”

Randolph’s Head Track & Field Coach, Brianna Huffed, praised Evan on his success, “Evan is truly a great student-athlete. I am truly happy for him that he is continuing his cross country and track journey on to the next level at the University of Miami. UM is truly gaining a hardworking and dedicated student-athlete that is ready for what is to come. Congratulations Evan!!”

Evan shared his excitement, stating, “I am very grateful and excited to be able to develop my skills and compete collegiately at the University of Miami. I’d like to thank everyone who’s supported me thus far, especially my parents, the Randolph Coaches, and thank you to Coach Wilk for this incredible opportunity.”
