The Spring season has arrived and the Randolph Raiders baseball team is gearing up to compete for an area title in 4A Area 13.
The Raiders will have a lot of young talent vying for starting positions as they seek to replace nine seniors off last year’s ballclub.
The Raiders rely heavily upon the leadership of senior outfielder, Thomas VonAhlefeld. Thomas was a key cog in the Raiders offense last year batting .304 and recording a team high 7 doubles. The Raiders will also be counting on senior P/1B, Andrew Smith, to help bolster the Raiders pitching and offense this season. We are also excited to have a few familiar faces rejoining the baseball program in senior outfielders Dane Miller and Theo Reischauer. Both are expected to compete for starting positions.
Junior staff ace, Jackson Weglage, and OF/1B Michael Vega will have a big impact on the success of the Raiders this season as both will take on more prominent roles.
Sophomores Bradford Hall and Zack MacFall will provide experience behind the plate. Sophomores Jack Reeves and Ryan Martin are expected to compete for spots in the Raiders pitching staff while sophomore, Liam Tomalty, will bring a reliable glove to second base and some added thump to the lineup. Sophomore, Keaton Schroer, will help strengthen our outfield and provide some innings in relief on the mound.
Coach Derek Baudy is excited about the direction of the program, “After taking our lumps last year, we have a hungry young core group that wants to make some noise in our area this year. We have some players with really high baseball IQs that we will lean on to compete and win some big games this year. It is our goal to compete for a playoff spot this year and we expect nothing less than to be right in the mix come April.”
The Raiders are also excited to bring up Coach Jason Marsh from the MS program to be a varsity assistant this year. He will help work with our catchers and assist Coach Matthew Smith with our hitters.
Opening Day is February 17 vs. Wilson (12:00pm- Varsity) with JV to follow.
