And just like that, the cross-country regular season is in the books! We now move into our “post season” where we first compete for the AHSAA 6A Section 6 Championship on Thursday, November 2 at Palmer Park in Madison, Alabama. Led by dedicated coaches and fueled by an unyielding spirit, the running Raiders are poised to leave their mark the 6A Section 6 Championship.

The journey leading to Sectionals has been nothing short of exciting. Our cross-country athletes have spent countless hours perfecting their stride, mastering their pace, and pushing their limits. The regular season, filled with tough competition, has prepared them for the challenge they will face this week.

Head Coach James Terwilliger has this to say about the upcoming Sectional Championship, ““The girls come in ranked 4th in our section. Athens HS leads it, with JP2 not far behind in 2nd. Our girls just got moved down to fourth this past Thursday with Hartselle’s performance at the Northwest Alabama Championships. We have Buckhorn breathing down our necks in 5th, so holding on to that 4th and final 6A state qualifying spot will be tough and tricky. The Randolph girls have never not qualified for the state championships in school history, so this position is pretty precarious but we feel like our girls have a lot of grit and focus to not let this streak end this year.”

“The boys are excited to finally get everyone back on the starting line that we hoped to have had all season long. A lot of injuries to our #3 and #4, Senior Nate Schamban and Sophomore Keaton Schroer, have made it somewhat difficult to gauge how good this squad could actually be this season. We know our boys can be a great team, we just haven’t been able to put everyone on the roster on the starting line at the same time this season. The boys come in ranked 2nd behind a tough JP2 squad. The boys lost to the Falcons just a couple weeks ago at the Huntsville Metro Championships by only 2 points! One thing is for sure, our boys will come ready for this chilly 6A sectional championship!”

The top 4 teams at each section qualify for the AHSAA 6A State Championships on Saturday, November 11 at Oakville Indian Mounds Park in Oakville, Alabama.

Good luck to our cross-country teams as they look compete in the 6A Sectional Championship!
