There are teams—and then there are programs built on decades of legacy. At Randolph, Cross Country isn't just a sport—it's a standard. With an incredible 17 combined team state championships, 17 combined state runner-up finishes, and 12 combined individual state titles, the Raiders Cross Country program has long been a dominant force in Alabama distance running.
Under the leadership of Head Coach James "Twig" Terwilliger and Assistant Coach Jacqui Krueger, the 2025–2026 squad enters a new season with the same fire and focus that have defined Randolph’s elite distance legacy—this time taking on the challenge of 6A competition with just 12 girls and 26 boys across grades 7–12.
“We coaches are very excited to see how this next season of 6A unfolds for our tiny little program,” said Coach Twig. “With only 12 girls and 26 boys, we do our best against 6A powerhouses like Mountain Brook and Homewood. The individual successes, especially for those that are returners, is something we especially look forward to!”
In true Randolph fashion, the expectations are simple but powerful: focus on the work, respect the journey, and enjoy every stride.
“It’s crazy, but honestly, our biggest expectation is to train smart, stay healthy, and have fun as we run fast,” Terwilliger said. “Anything after that is just a cherry on top.”
Athletes to Watch
Anna Ragsdale (Junior): All-Time School record holder. Relentless competitor. Quiet storm. Expect big things.
Meredith Walker (Sophomore): A rising star closing in fast on Ragsdale, the battle for Randolph’s top female could be one of the season’s most exciting storylines.
Lillian Orton (7th Grade): A newcomer with natural talent and potential. Once she learns the art of racing, the Raiders may have a surprise weapon by season’s end.
Lucas Israel, Andrew Walker, Jasper Howse (Juniors): This trio headlines a stacked junior class with serious upside. Their chemistry and leadership could push the boys’ squad to new heights.
Brooks Johnson (Freshman): Though only eligible for JV this season due to transfer rules, this HJHS product is the real deal and will bring competitive fire to every starting line.
