The Randolph Raiders Indoor Track & Field team has been relentless all season, setting personal and school records with each meet. Now, as they prepare for the AHSAA 4A-5A State Indoor Track & Field Meet, Head Coach Brianna Huff believes her team is more than ready to compete at the highest level.
From the very first meet, the Raiders set a standard of excellence. They weren’t just competing—they were making history.
“This season, our Raiders approached every meet with determination and strength from start to finish,” said Coach Huff. “From day one, we shared the same goal: to set personal records at every meet and break school records—and that’s exactly what they did.”
That mindset has been key to their success. Despite having a small roster of just 21 athletes, Randolph refused to let numbers define them. Instead, they focused on mental toughness and maximizing every opportunity.
“While this sport demands physical strength, it’s the mental side that truly elevates performance,” Huff explained. “We’ve worked hard to instill that mindset in our athletes, and their results speak for themselves.”
One of the season’s biggest highlights came when senior Katelyn Valtos shattered the school’s 800-meter record, a mark untouched since 2021.
“She has put in an incredible amount of work, and this season, it all paid off,” Huff said.
Randolph enters the state meet primed to bring home a trophy, competing across multiple disciplines in both sprint, distance, and field events.
“On the girls’ side, keep an eye on the 60-meter hurdles, 400 meters, 800 meters, 1600 meters, 3200 meters, 4x200-meter relay, 4x400-meter relay, long jump, and triple jump,” Huff noted. “And for the boys, don’t miss the 4x800-meter relay—you’re going to be in for a show.”
The Raiders are carrying strong momentum into the championship meet after a dominant performance at the Last Chance Meet, where they secured 13 personal records and a new school record.
“The results from the Last Chance Meet prove that our athletes give their all at every competition,” said Huff. “They pushed themselves harder than ever to hit the marks they needed, making the most of their last opportunity before state.”
The biggest challenge this season? Competing with a small team.
“With just 21 athletes, it was the smallest team we’ve had,” Huff admitted. “But I told them from the start—success isn’t about numbers. It’s about making the most of what you have and giving it everything you’ve got.”
And the Raiders have done just that.
“We have eleven athletes competing at state, and across the eight events we’re in, our athletes rank in the top seven in the 4A-5A division. That’s valuable points adding up,” Huff said.
Their ultimate goal? A top-three team finish—and maybe more.
“We’ve already achieved so much, but we’re not stopping there,” Huff declared. “We want more personal records, more school records, and most importantly, the AHSAA 4A-5A State Championship trophy.”
As the Raiders step onto the track for the biggest meet of the season, Huff has a simple but powerful message for them:
“Everything we have worked for—every cold practice, every tough workout, and every sacrifice—has led to this moment. You are ready. You belong. Compete with heart, with confidence, and with the relentless drive that has brought you this far. This is your moment—leave nothing behind. Go chase history and let’s finish what we started.”
No matter what happens at state, this season has already changed the way Huff views success.
“This group of athletes is truly special,” she said. “People often say that the more athletes you have, the more successful you’ll be—but I no longer believe that. Success isn’t about numbers. It’s about grit, determination, and heart.”
And with the foundation set this season, Randolph Track & Field’s future is only getting stronger.
As the Raiders take on the AHSAA 4A-5A State Indoor Track & Field Meet, they aren’t just running for medals—they’re running for history.
And if their season so far is any indication, they won’t be stopped.
