School Records Fall as Raiders ITF Compete at MLK Classic #1

On Monday, January 20th, our Randolph Indoor Track & Field Varsity team competed at the “Martin Luther King Track Classic #1.” Against a backdrop of fierce competition with 78 schools in attendance, the Raiders showcased thrilling performances, highlighted by personal bests, school records, and remarkable achievements across various events.

Here’s a recap of the standout performances:

Sprints and Hurdles
Emerson Brinkmeier (Senior): Finished the 60m hurdles in 10.07, placing 9th overall.
Luc Schamban (Sophomore): Impressed in the 400 meters, clocking a personal best of 59.40.
Middle and Long-Distance
Katelyn Valtos (Senior): Stole the show in the 800m, securing 2nd place with a time of 2:19.42. Katelyn broke a school record from 2021 and now ranks among the top 100 high school indoor runners nationwide.
Andrew Walker (Sophomore): Delivered a strategic and determined performance in the boys' 1600m, finishing in 4:59.14.
Field Events
Emily Creekmore (Senior): Excelled in the long jump with a leap of 16-04, setting a new school record and earning 3rd place.
Marshall Glaese (Freshman): Showed great promise in the shot put, recording a throw of 30-06.
Relays
Girls 4x200m Relay: The team of Emerson Brinkmeier, Mia Shah, Julianne Jones, and Emily Creekmore finished with a time of 1:57.96.
Boys 4x400m Relay: Making their season debut, Luc Schamban, Jasper Howse, Andrew Walker, and Lucas Israel completed the race in 4:03.04.
Additional Highlights
Several athletes recorded personal bests, further demonstrating the depth of talent and hard work within the team:

Julianne Jones: Achieved a PR in the 60m (9.21).
Anna Ragsdale: Clocked 5:48.93 in the 1600m, placing 19th.
Julia Jennings: Ran a PR of 2:46.05 in the 800m.
Landon Lee: Secured 22nd in the 3200m with a time of 11:46.32.

“This meet truly exemplified the hard work and dedication of our Raiders,” said Coach Huff. “From personal bests to school records, our athletes put on an unforgettable performance. It’s a testament to the countless hours of effort they’ve poured into this season.”

While the MLK Classic marked the season’s conclusion for some athletes, others will continue competing in upcoming meets:

Last Chance Pentathlon – Friday, January 24th.
Last Chance Invitational #1 – Saturday, January 25th.
The team’s final opportunity to qualify for the State Meet will be on Friday, January 31st.
