Randolph Athletics | 10/30/2024

The stakes are high as the Randolph Raider Cross Country team prepares to tackle the 6A Section 6 Championship at John Hunt Park on Tuesday, October 31st. With 10 teams battling it out for the coveted top four spots to secure their place in the AHSAA State Championship, both the boys' and girls' teams are set to face fierce competition on the course. This intense showdown promises plenty of excitement and fan support could be the key to pushing our Raiders to the top!

The girls’ race, set to start at 9:40 AM, features an impressive lineup for Randolph, including standout sophomore Anna Ragsdale, the school's record holder for fastest 5K time, and a strong team of dedicated runners: Kate Berkholtz, Madison Burgdorf Burcina, Katie Cofield, Lily Pfitzer, Lily Shah, Mia Shah, Miriam Tidwell, Meredith Walker, and Lucy Zhang, with Kalia Woods as the alternate and Sophia Dooley as the team manager. In the virtual rankings, Randolph’s girls sit at 4th, just 18 points from 2nd place and only 6 points behind 3rd. With JP2 currently leading and Hartselle and Decatur close behind, every runner’s performance will count to hold onto a qualifying spot and maybe even pull off an upset.

The boys’ race follows at 10:55 AM, with a lineup that includes Josh Berkholtz, Davis Cook, Jasper Howse, Lucas Israel, Landon Lee, Tucker Lee, Eli de Oliveira, Wick Pfitzer, Keaton Schroer, and Andrew Walker, with Mason Mackiewicz as the alternate and Bryce de Oliveira serving as team manager. Ranked 3rd in the virtual rankings, the boys are eyeing a spot just behind Hazel Green and JP2, with Buckhorn and Athens looking to close in. The boys’ standings promise an equally tight race, where strategy and support on the sidelines could make all the difference.

John Hunt Park is the perfect stage for the Raiders to prove their place among the best. The pressure is on, but with the spirit of the Randolph community cheering them on, this team is ready to make its mark and bring home a chance to qualify for State. Don’t miss out—come out, show your Raider pride, and give our runners that extra push to the finish line!

Let’s go, Raiders!
