The Shields-Jones Athletic Complex will be rocking as the Randolph Raiders Volleyball team opens their 2024 season at home against their cross-town rivals, Westminster Christian Academy Wildcats.

For Westminster, who finished 141st in Alabama last year according to the MaxPreps AL Rankings, the new season brings a mix of hope and challenge. The Wildcats lost two key players to graduation but have reloaded with a formidable front line. Middle hitters Ella Anderson (#12) and Tiyah Reed (#23) will be players to watch, both of whom are heavily involved on both sides of the net. Right-side hitter Addie McWhorter (#15) is another standout, known for her powerful play and smart decision-making. McWhorter’s cross-court shot has been a major focus for the Raiders in preparation as they look to limit her effectiveness.

"This is a big game for us every year," said Randolph Head Coach Bri Turner. "It's always extremely competitive, and the girls look forward to it because of the talent on both sides of the court."

Randolph, who triumphed over Westminster in last season's opener—Turner’s first game as head coach—is eager to repeat that success. Turner will lean heavily on her two leaders in the middle, Cara DeJesus and Scarlett James Smith, to set the tone early. Both bring experience and leadership to the Raiders' lineup, which will be crucial in this rivalry game that often sets the tone for the rest of the season.

Fans can expect a back-and-forth battle, as these two teams square off in what has become a must-see rivalry. With Westminster hungry for revenge after last year's loss and Randolph looking to defend their home court, this season opener will undoubtedly live up to its billing.
