Today marks a momentous occasion for the Randolph School community as we proudly announce that Wright McManus has signed his Letter of Intent to run at Rhodes College in Memphis, TN. Wright's exceptional talent and dedication to the Cross Country and Track & Field programs has not only opened up an opportunity for him to continue running at the next level, but he has also made a big impact on the programs here at Randolph.

Wright McManus isn't just a name; it's a symbol of athletic dominance and leadership at Randolph School. From the moment he stepped into the running scene in 7th grade until his senior year, Wright exemplified dedication and talent across three sports seasons every year. In cross country, he etched his mark in school history, qualifying for the State meet all six years of his middle and high school career. Despite facing injuries, his senior year was nothing short of remarkable, with a stellar performance at the State meet, clocking a time of 16:12, placing him fourth all-time in Randolph's Cross Country history.

Randolph Head Cross Country Coach, Coach Twig, expressed his gratitude for what Wright has meant to the Cross Country Program by stating, “Wright has done as much if not more than any other student-athlete who has come through. He has meant so much for our program and he leaves behind big shoes to fill.”

Wright's Track and Field journey mirrored his Cross Country success, with notable achievements in both Indoor and Outdoor. As part of the 4x800 State Runner-Up team and earning the title of Most Valuable Teammate, his success in Indoor Track was undeniable. In Outdoor, he left his mark, setting records in the 4x800 relay and qualifying for multiple events at the State Championships. His personal records of 4:30 in the 1600m, 2:01 in the 800m, and 9:57 in the 3200m solidified his status as one of Randolph's Track greats.

Randolph’s Head Track & Field Coach, Brianna Huffed, praised Wright on his success, "Rhodes College is truly gaining a young man that knows what he’s doing and is ready for anything. We are truly going to miss you and I cannot wait to see what the future has in store for you at Rhodes College. Congratulations Wright.”

Wright shared his excitement, stating, “This is another opportunity for me to give back to the sport that has given me so much. It all gives me another opportunity to glorify Christ, my family, and coaches.”

His leadership extended to the Student Government Association, where he served all four years and eventually became the President. His academic excellence was recognized with prestigious scholarships, including the Trey Wilbourn Memorial Scholarship and the Lyle Alumni Scholarship. Moreover, his commitment to community service through involvement with the youth program at First United Methodist Church in Huntsville exemplifies his well-rounded character. Wright McManus didn't just excel in athletics; he embodied integrity, dedication, and leadership, leaving behind a legacy that will inspire generations to come.

Rhodes Head Coach, Robert Shankman, was excited when he learned Wright was joining his team. He had this to say about Wright, “We are incredibly excited to have Wright join our program this fall. An outstanding student and athlete, we knew from the moment he stepped foot on campus there was a great connection.

Mature, balanced, and focused, Wright’s work ethic and overall demeanor will fit in so well with our team culture. We look forward to a great four years!!”

To all of Randolph Nation, let's join together in congratulating Wright McManus and wishing him the best as he takes the next steps in his running career.
