The Boys' Basketball team has secured the Area Tournament Championship for the first time since 2011. The Randolph Raiders showcased exceptional skill, teamwork, and determination throughout the tournament, culminating in a resounding victory over the Westminster Christian Academy Wildcats with a final score of 51-19.
Despite a closely contested first half where the Raiders held a slim 16-12 lead over the Wildcats, our team showed resilience and composure, never allowing the pressure of the moment to deter their performance.
In the second half, the Raiders defense continued to make things difficult for the Wildcats, holding them to a mere 7 points. On the other end of the floor, the Raiders poured in 35 second half points to pull away and secure a commanding victory.
The Raiders were led by All-Area performers Hunter Wiggins, Roan Campbell, Garrett Trousdale, and Will Waites. Hunter Wiggins and Theo Reischauer led the way with 11 points each. Tyler DeOrio and Garrett Trousdale each contributed 10 points to help the Raiders to victory.
Head coach Tray Hatfield had this to say about his team’s performance, “I’m so proud of our guys for the way we fought all year to reach a goal that we set in June. To be the first team to win an area championship in 13 years is a something these guys will get to carry with them for a long time.”
The triumph of the Randolph Raiders in the Area Tournament is a testament to the hard work and dedication of not only the players but also the coaching staff. Countless hours of practice, preparation, and sacrifice have led to this achievement, and it is truly a reflection of the unwavering commitment to excellence that defines our athletic program.
The Raiders will now look forward to hosting a Sub-Regional game against the Good Hope Indians on Saturday, February 10 at TOC Court. Tip-off is set for 6:00pm.
