The Lady Raiders, coming off a stellar 12-win campaign – the most victories the program has seen since the 2014-2015 season – are poised to make waves and defy expectations. Last season was a testament to the team’s resilience and skill, but it was not without its challenges. The Lady Raiders bid farewell to two vital components of their success, Joanna Vega and Madison DeOrio. However, with adversity comes opportunity, and the Lady Raiders have a group of eager and talented players ready to step up and carry the mantle.
With eight returning players, including three starters, the team has a solid foundation to build upon. The team will be spearheaded by the trio of Ashlyn Hafley, Madison Moore, and Anne Fowlkes Schreeder. Hafley, in particular, is a player to watch this season, having finished last season averaging a double-double, showcasing her ability to influence the game on both ends of the court.
The Lady Raiders are also excited to add four new faces into their lineup, each bringing unique skills and potential to the team. Seniors Kelis Massey and Emma Grace Reeves are expected to provide leadership and experience. Sophomore Cara DeJesus brings youthful energy and a hunger to prove herself. Freshman Elizabeth Shaw is set to make her high school debut with a lot of promise and potential.
Area Outlook:
The area presents some formidable challenges, with the Lady Raiders set to face off against the JP2 Falcons, Westminster Christian Wildcats, and the West Limestone Wildcats. These matchups will be critical tests for the Lady Raiders, providing opportunities to showcase our growth and determination.
Head Coach Zac Barringer is confident in his team’s ability to rise to the occasion, stating emphatically, “people and teams have already messed up by underestimating us.” This statement encapsulates the team’s mentality heading into the season – hungry, determined, and ready to prove the doubters wrong.
With a blend of experienced veterans, promising newcomers, and a chip on their shoulder, the Lady Raiders are not just looking to compete this season… they are looking to take the next step.
