As the start of basketball season grows near, we had a chance to speak with new Varsity Boys Basketball Head Coach, Trey Hatfield about the upcoming season.

"I couldn't have asked for a better group of kids to have in my first season as a head coach. These guys have done everything I have asked of them since day one. We have had great senior leadership which is huge for any coach but especially someone being in charge for the first time. Our entire program, from middle school to varsity, has worked incredibly hard all summer and fall to get ready for this season and I am very excited to experience it with them."

Key Returners from last year’s squad include:
Seniors - Roan Campbell and Theo Reischauer
Juniors - Hunter Wiggins, William Mitchell, and Will Waites
Sophomores – Garrett Trousdale

"Seniors, Theo Reischauer and Roan Campbell did a great job leading our team this summer, along with returning our starting point guard, Garrett Trousdale, and key contributors from last season in Hunter Wiggins, Will Waites, and William Mitchell, we are looking forward to having a lot of varsity experience to start the season."

Players to Keep an Eye on:
Juniors – Tyler DeOrio and Michael Vega
Sophomores – Hudson Cloud, Grant Enfinger, and Jack Reeves

"We have a great core of young players new to the varsity level that have put in an incredible amount of work this offseason to get ready for their first look at varsity competition. Sophomores Grant Enfinger, Jack Reeves, and Hudson Cloud had a great offseason in the weight room with Coach Gaunt, along with playing with Pro One over the spring and summer has gotten them ready to impact games at a varsity level. Juniors, Tyler DeOrio and Michael Vega will provide a lot of great basketball instincts, IQ, toughness, and athleticism on the court for us.”

Area Outlook:
"Our area lost a lot of talent from last year with some key players from West Limestone, Westminster, and our seniors from last year having graduated or transferred. The area is going to be very competitive with a lot of tight games throughout the season. We are looking forward to the challenge of having to compete day in and day out against these teams in what should make for some great atmospheres for high school basketball."
