As the summer miles give way to the excitement of a new cross country season, optimism surrounds the 2026 Randolph School Girls Cross Country team. Blending veteran leadership with talented returning runners and an eager group of newcomers, the Raiders enter the fall determined to continue one of Alabama's most respected distance running traditions.

Randolph's Girls’ Cross Country program has long been synonymous with excellence, capturing AHSAA State Championships in 1978, 1979, 1980, 1996, 1998, 2016, and 2017. While the expectations that accompany that tradition are high, this year's team is focused less on the finish line in November and more on the process that has defined Randolph cross country for decades—consistent training, selfless teamwork, and daily improvement.

Leading the way is an outstanding senior class of Sophia Dooley, Anna Ragsdale, and Lily Shah. Over the past four years, the trio has become the heartbeat of the program, helping establish a culture built on accountability, encouragement, and unwavering commitment. Whether it's setting the pace during early morning summer runs, offering encouragement during difficult workouts, or mentoring younger teammates through their first varsity season, each has embraced the responsibility that comes with being a senior Raider.

The Raiders will also enjoy the unique opportunity to compete twice on their home course at John Hunt Park, one of the premier cross country venues in the Southeast.

On Saturday, October 17, Randolph will host the annual Randolph Invitational, welcoming schools from across Alabama and the surrounding region. The meet has become one of the highlights of the fall racing calendar, offering outstanding competition while giving athletes a chance to experience the championship course before postseason racing begins.

Less than two weeks later, on Thursday, October 29, Randolph will again welcome many of the state's top private school programs as it hosts the AHSAA Section 4 Private School Championships. With qualifying spots for the state championships on the line, the sectional meet promises to deliver one of the most competitive days of racing of the season. Competing on familiar terrain provides the Raiders with a valuable advantage while giving the Huntsville community an opportunity to witness championship-caliber cross country firsthand.

Head Coach Twig emphasized that mindset as the team prepares for the season. "This group has really embraced the process," Twig said. "They show up every day ready to work, support each other, and get a little better. If we stay committed to that, the results will take care of themselves."

Although the season will ultimately be measured by results in October and November, the Raiders know success begins with the work they put in each day. Every workout, every recovery run, and every shared mile strengthens the bonds that have long made Randolph cross country one of the state's premier programs.

With experienced leadership, a championship tradition behind them, and a team united by common goals, the 2026 Randolph Girls Cross Country team is ready to write the next chapter in the proud history of Raider distance running.
